9 Months ago I Collabed with DJ Melo on our second tune “I Can Make You Dance” for the Moombahton Massive III SXSW compilation. as a by standard I went with Melo to the Massive in Austin, TX and watched him, Dave Nada, Sabo, Dillon Francis, A-mac, Orion, Toy Selectah, and a handful of others change my life in 1 single night. We have all come along way since then. Since it’s the New Year and there is so much stuff to look foward to in 2012. I’m gonna say thanks for a great 2011. To everybody that supported me on my journey this past year. I was able to make and get out about 40 songs with the help of my Brothers DJ Melo, Riot Earp, Frank Mendez, and all the Arizonaton peeps. Along with support from Dave Nada, Sabo, David Heartbreak, Munchi, Jon Kwest and all my Moombah Fam.  And support from all the Writters, Bloggers, and people who have played or pushed my tunes, or showed a friend that didn’t know what I was about. I Appreciate all of you. I’ve made alot of new friends this year in this scene, and i’m really looking foward to what 2012 is gonna bring us. I’ve compiled a 2011 Pickster Discography list so you can see if you missed any tunes that I made or put out in 2011.  Most of these songs on the list are available for FREE DOWNLOAD on my sound cloud here:

I’ve been lucky enough to be selected for this super dope Moombahton compilation put together by the homie Billy The Gent from Washington, DC. The comp is Called “Through The Wire” and is basically a whole Record made completly through the Internet. I’ll let Billy explain the concept in his own words but do your self a favor and Grab this comp!

Billy The Gent & Pickster – Bring The Bass Back by PicksterOne

More words on the comp from Billy The Gent:
This compilation all began when I started working on a song with DJ Klever (bonus track). We made an entire track over the internet and It got me thinking about how the web brings so many people together with tons of collaborations that would otherwise never be possible. So I ran with that idea and put together an entire compilation of songs made exclusively over the internet. I contacted some of my favorite moombahton producers/bros and literally drew names out of a hat to match up collaborators. The only rules were everyone had one month to complete their song (we all kinda broke this rule) and that you could not meet in person to work on it. When I got all the tracks back, I contacted my friend and fellow Audio Ammo crew member Brian Woodland to design the artwork. Im super happy with the outcome of this, and hopefully you all enjoy!!

At a most crucial period in moombahton’s global expansion, Phoenix, Arizona’s Pickster One curates The Rise of Moombahton, a compilation spotlighting the top sounds in the growing vastness of progressive mid-tempo global bass. The seasonal moombahton compilations started in July 2010 as Munchi gathered 24 of the finest tracks in the genre from 22 separate producers in order to prove, as the now instant legend producer stated, “(that) moombahton is here to stay!”

Fast forward 14 months, and the importance of the seasonal compilations has increased. Dance pop superstar Skrillex has the inventor, Dave Nada and his collaborator Matt Nordstrom on tour as openers for his Mothership Tour, with a separate fall and winter tour planned for Nadastrom’s own Scion A/V and forthcoming Mad Decent releases. Names that dominated the July 2010 release like Heartbreak, Munchi, DJ Sabo, Pickster One and DJ Melo are starting to tour, in some cases internationally, now maintaining a busy schedule between touring and now constantly churning out new material. Moombahton has grown from an accident into potentially the next major windfall for not just American, but international dance.

Global powerhouse dance journal Mixmag has taken notice of the American upstart with immense global potential, and now presents The Rise of Moombahton (Fall 2011 compilation). For neophyte fans of the genre only aware of Mad Decent’s Blow Your Head: Volume 2 compilation, this is the perfect next level. “Introducing” producers who have been down from  day one, the sounds here include all of moombahton’s many variations, brilliantly produced by top tier professionals.

It’s not a crazy idea to presume that within the next six or nine months that more established mainstream dance producers will adopt the sound and attempt to mimic it’s inherent revolutionary sensibilities. By moombahton’s next winter, the heat could be so hot in the genre that it feels like a completely different season and radically different time.

Dj Melo – Star Time EP by Think 2wice

A James Brown sample hasn’t had to tell anyone in the know in our favorite tropical genre that DJ Melo was a star. The Phoenix, Arizona native has paced moombahton every step of the way. However, with his latest Think 2wice records release, the Star Time EP (available from Amazon, Juno Download and Beatport), he finally makes the move to being a leader of the pack. Proving that steady growth and accomplishment is always the most preferred method of success, the Arizona gunslinger fires a shot as broad as it is deep into the sky, signaling the arrival of the next world renowned moombahtonista. Melo’s command of traditional Latin rhythms mixes with a next level understanding of bass for a moombahton style that combines the depth and bombast that have attracted most ears to the movement. In six original tracks and three top tier remixes, Melo makes a dominant statement in the underground’s most populist sound of the moment.

1. Star Time
2. Topless Riddim
3. Heater ft. Pickster
4. The Comeback
5. Lunar Eclipse
6. Corrosion
7. Heater (Sazon Booya Remix)
8. Star Time (Boyfriend Remix)
9. Topless Riddim (Fellow Remix)

Lurking between the sharp thorns of a cactus plant and 300 feet high clouds of dust in a sandstorm lies the AZ Gunslingaz. A group of young Moombahtonistas from Phoenix Arizona. In an effort to put a southwest stamp on the fast rising Moombahton Scene, DJ/Producer Pickster compiled an EP of edgy and contemporary Moombahton/Moombacore tunes from DJ Melo, Mendez, Sluggo, Riot Earp, and himself. Each producer brings their own Arizona vibe and style to the table, DJ Melo with his latin percussion bass, Mendez and Sluggo with their DNB-Dubstep influenced El Cuco Recordings, Riot Earp with his jump up in your face style, and Pickster with his heavy drum, synthy, big room sound. This is just a snapshot of what’s going on in Phoenix right now. Other Moombahtonistas are popping up all over the Arizona scene as you read this. In an effort to kick up dust and bass bins at the same time the Gunslingaz EP presents a Southwestern, desert, gun shootout, party theme. Instead of bullets they use sharp synth lines and deep bass tones in an effort to help define a unique Arizona Moombahton sound. Maybe in the near future you’ll see lowriders in Phoenix cruising by bumping bass filled Moombahton tunes instead of oldies, you never know.
